HELLO, MY NAME IS
Ashlee Wisdom
I am passionate about equity and justice in healthcare and society. I was born in the Bahamas and migrated to the United States when I was only 8-months-old. The oldest of four children, I was raised by my Jamaican mother and stepfather in New York. I grew up in a big, close-knit, musically inclined family and was raised in the church. My upbringing showed me the beauty, power, and necessity of having a strong community.
During my formative years, I lived in the Bronx, where I first recognized social inequity even before I had the language to speak critically about it. My experiences and my growing consciousness activated me to challenge the status quo of structural racism rather than bask in the myth of Black exceptionalism.
My Christian faith strongly influences my commitment to justice. As a follower of Jesus, I am commissioned to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly (Micah 6:8). While I am keenly aware of and concerned about inequity in all aspects of society, I’ve chosen to focus my work in healthcare. I am the Founder & CEO of Health In Her HUE, a digital platform that connects Black women to the healthcare providers, services and resources that are committed to their health and well-being. Through this platform, I endeavor to empower Black women, and our allies, to share, learn and innovate around the health issues that disproportionately affect us.
Before working on Health In Her HUE full-time, I worked for an advisory firm, Junto Health, where I was the Program Director for the Strategic Ventures Group, an exclusive consortium of nationally-ranked health systems investing in health technology.
When i’m not working, I love going to brunch, quaint coffee shops with free WiFi, books about race and intersectional feminism, and traveling. Some of my favorite countries include, Cuba, and South Africa.
